Some of my Favorite Things | the sacred gaze: discovering "A Chick Called Albert"

I recently discovered a series of YouTube videos that have deeply touched my spirit, titled A Chick Called Albert. The channel is run by Alwyn Wils, a Dutch animal lover whose work is the epitome of the "Nothing More" and "Patient Presence". He became well known after hatching a tiny quail egg from a supermarket—naming the chick Albert—and has since dedicated himself to rescuing birds that others might consider "lost causes.”

He has a way of moving through the world, whether he is incubating a "bumblebee-sized" egg found in the wild or helping a tiny bird reweave its strength after an injury. Alwyn truly embodies the Patient Witness. There is no rush in his work his is a hand in hand process along side with nature that reaches directly into one’s heart. His essence  and work reminds us of the sanctity found in even the smallest life-force and in the beauty and intelligence of the workings of nature.

The Art of Compassionate Presence

What draws me most to Alwyn’s journey is the compassion and love he exudes without saying much. He sits in the "waiting room of hope" for days, watching over an incubator or hand-feeding a fledgling truly hold space for another’s healing; he simply offers his warmth and protection so that life can flourish. As you watch these tiny creatures find safety in his hands.

In addition, I have learned quite a bit about the hatching process of birds.

Definitely a wonderful series of videos for the entire family especially the children.

Here are a few links to get you started and connect with the simple beauty of the Kingdom of Birds, and one incredible caretaker.
